In Al-Hasakeh, women contribute significantly to household survival through farming, handicrafts, and daily wage labor. Yet they face alarming rates of physical, psychological, economic, and sexual violence, worsened by poverty and harmful gender norms.
Formative research conducted under the Building Local Resilience in Syria programme reveals that 74% of women are excluded from income-generating activities, and many remain silent when facing intimate partner violence due to stigma and social expectations. Women with disabilities, widows, and divorced women are especially vulnerable to harassment, restrictions on mobility, and exclusion from services.
The report calls for gender-transformative interventions, including engaging men in positive masculinity, supporting survivors with psychosocial and legal services, and promoting joint household decision-making.
